Dear Everybody,

Rebecca Weinberg coordinates an afterschool program of
extracurricular activities at the Poughkeepsie Middle School, an
extension of VAST, the Vassar After School Tutoring Program. She is
hoping that two Vassar students would be willing to spend one hour per
week for three weeks introducing a group of middle schoolers to
aikido. It would be 4-5 p.m. on three consecutive Tuesdays: Feb 20,
Feb 27, and March 6.

Is any one up for this? It sounds like a lot of fun, and she
would provide transporation.

Cheers,

Hi Sean,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'm glad you're
enthusiastic about the program.

To clarify, it's 1 hour per week for 3 consecutive weeks. For
example the next session will include 3 1-hour sessions: 4-5pm on
Tuesday, Feb 20, then 4-5 on the 27th and finally 4-5 on March 6. I
could provide transportation if your students don't have cars or don't
know where the Middle School is. Two students would definitely
suffice to lead the session-- it should be a pretty small group of 6th
graders. There will also be a few Vassar tutors present to help
supervise (the tutoring program lasts from 3-4-- this program follows
directly after). It's all pretty lowkey and flexible-- we're never
really sure how many students will show up but those who do get a lot out
of it. There's no expectation that the students will master
anything in this short time-- it's really just about getting some
exposure to a new skill.

Let me know if you have any further questions and also what kind of
feedback you get from students. Feel free to give them my contact
info.

Thanks so much,

This sounds like a great opportunity. I will
definitely ask my students

about it. But before I do, how many would you need?
Two? Three?

And, also, just to be clear, is the time commitment
three hours spread

over three weeks? That is, would it be one hour per week for
three

weeks? I just want to be crystal clear before asking for
volunteers.

Cheers,
