All,

First:
Just a reminder that director Kelly Reichardt will be here this Wednesday at 6PM in the Rosenwald (with her 2006 feature Old Joy screening at 4:30).

Second (Feedback Desired):
Lawyer Questions:
Jaia Thomas, the entertainment lawyer, will be here on Friday at 4PM in D&F Room 308. She was wondering if there were any specific issues that you wanted her to address. I already told her to devote some time to addressing music usage in films, but shoot me an email if there is anything else that you would especially like her to address (like distribution issues or something like that).

Third:
Videography/Documentary Opportunity:
R.E.A.L. Hip-Hop Theater is a social change theater group that meets in downtown Poughkeepsie at the Family Partnership Center, and is a collaboration between 10 Vassar students and 18 Poughkeepsie High/Middle School students. We are currently looking for a videographer to help document our April 30th show. Over the course of the year the group develops a full length, multi-media production around issues like hip-hop, popular representation, race, violence, sexuality, gender, and Poughkeepsie. Last year our play, What's Really Hood?, drew a 1200 person audience and included a gospel choir, a dance team, step team, and multiple rappers/singers. We're trying to make an even bigger and better production this year, and are fully underway. We expect the show to include two dance crews, a young prodigy singer, multiple rap acts, and live painting, in addition to a play dependent on audience participation and interaction. Unfortunately last year, we did not do the proper prep work to make sure we had a thorough visual account of the night, and we are not going to let that happen this year. Therefore I am looking for Vassar filmmakers to help document our play April 30th. We are also making a documentary about our process, in addition to incorporating video into the performance, if either of those things interest you, we could always use another camera(wo)man and/or editor to contribute. But the night we could really use help on is April 30th. If interested, email me at jakroopf at gmail.com, or call me at (310) 741-9909. If you can't help out with the videography ya'll should really try and make it out to the show.

Fourth:
2 Unrelated Composers:

1:
My name is Toru Momii, and I'm a junior majoring in music with a focus on composition.
I have a lot of interest in film scoring, and I've reached a point
where I may want to pursue a career in composing scores for films.
I know the Vassar Filmmakers are heavily involved in the production of many films, and I was wondering
whether there would be any chance you would be interested in having an original score
composed for one of the works produced by the Filmmakers.

I've studied composition for a few years at Vassar, and I'm currently writing a piece for
the Mahagonny Ensemble after receiving a commission from them last year.

I'm trying to gain some experience collaborating with directors and producers, and of course
with the process of music-making itself. I would love to write music for any genre, and if it is
done correctly, I feel like this could be a really rewarding experience.
Even if you don't have anything in mind at the moment, I just wanted to let you know that I'm
always interested in creating music for films, and please feel free to contact me at tomomii at vassar.edu if you're in need
of an original score.

2:

Fifth (Feedback Desired):
Suicide Kids:
I'm a class of '07 alum who wrote and directed a feature last summer and am interested in screening it at Vassar in the latter half of this semester, if possible. The film, Suicide Kids, is a coming-of-age story about a group of friends trying to figure out what to make of their lives after graduating college and returning home to suburbia during the Great Recession. I'm finishing postproduction work and should have a finished cut by mid-March. If your org would be interested in hosting a screening, I'd love to bring the film to Vassar - i think the story will resonate with college kids, and several of the crew and one actress are also Vassar grads. More information, including two teasers, are available at our website: http://www.suicidekids.com

My question to ya'll = Would you be interested in seeing this film?

Sixth:
Comedy (A cookie to the funniest reason why our org would be interested in attending the below):
I represent Steve Hofstetter, a standup comedian based in New York City, who will be headlining a special April Fool's Day comedy show at Poughkeepsie's Mahoney's (35 Main St) on Thursday, April 1st at 8PM. Hofstetter has been on CBS' Late Late Show, E!'s True Hollywood Story, VH1's Countdown, and ESPN's Quite Frankly, and is best known as the original writer for collegehumor.com.

Our sponsors have been gracious enough to make up to 20 discount tickets available to Vassar Filmmakers. I hope you and your group (and any guests they'd like to bring) can make the show.

Normally the tickets are $17, but if you use the promocode studentthree, they're just $3!

See ya'll Wednesday,
Kyle
