> Next semester, seniors will be working on three narrative films as part of the senior narrative workshop. These project will be three different 20 minute films shot on 16mm in crews of four students. There is an opportunity for three sophomores to be able to take the senior narrative class as an independent study and work on the senior crews as a sound mixer/ sound designer. This is an incredible opportunity for sophomores to have access to a senior level course taught by Ken Robinson. Sophomores will be able to attend all of the senior classes, and will be treated as producers on the project (i.e. they will have creative input that expands beyond sound mixing/designing.) These films will be screened at the end of the year in the Rosenwald theater and, many of these projects may even be sent to festivals. You will learn an immense amount of practical experience from this class, you will be able to spend time on a senior set where you can help out as gaffer/grips as well as set designers and assistant directors in addition to sound.
>
> This class is not for everyone. Senior crews shoot every weekend, sometimes two days of the weekend for 6-12 hours each time. Class meets 4 hours a week (3 hours one day and 1 hour another day.) It is a very intensive class that takes alot of time and effort but it is an incredible experience that is worth pursuing
>
> In order for there to be three senior films instead of two we need to know how many sophomores will be availible/ interested in the independent study within two days, so please email Gilad Thaler '13 (githaler at vassar.edu) Elena Gaby (elgaby at vassar.edu) or Max Powers '13 (mapowers at vassar.edu) or Nick Chianese '14 (nichianese at vassar.edu) for more information/ if you have any questions. All of these students have done the sophomore sound indepenedent study in the past and can tell you more about it. Also, if you are interested you must contact Ken Robinson (kerobinson at vassar.edu) by the end of the weekend just so we have an idea of who may be interested. You will have another week or so for your final official decisions.
>
> All the best and Happy Halloween!
> Sincerely,
> Gilad Thaler
