Hey Filmmakers,

Tonight at 6:30pm in Sanders Auditorium, we're presenting a rare program of
films by Ricky D’Ambrose. The filmmaker will be in attendance for a Q&A and
for a reception following the event.

Some more info about Ricky and his films:

This program presents a brief survey of Ricky's productive career,
beginning with his interview of the late Chantal Akerman, recorded in 2013;
and ending with the premiere of Ricky's newest short film, a piece
entitled *Roll
Call, *which he premiered digitally to coincide with the conclusion of the
Special Counsel's investigation on Russian interference in the 2016
election. Key to his films is the modest means with which they were
realized––budgets typically not in excess of $50, a DSLR, and a single
light source. Ricky's work is marked by its acute, elliptical formalism and
its literary sensibility, manifest in its focus on notes, videotapes,
texts, and photographs. *Notes on an Appearance* recalls the mysterious
disappearance of a young archivist through the notebooks and objects left
in his wake.

Ricky D’Ambrose is a Brooklyn-based writer and filmmaker whose films have
played in international competitions such as the Venice and Berlin film
festivals, and stateside at festivals such as the New York Film Festival.
His feature film *Notes on an Appearance* was selected for the 47th annual
New Directors/New Films lineup at the Museum of Modern Art and the Film
Society at Lincoln Center. After a successful theatrical run across the
United States, a DVD release of *Notes on An Appearance* is forthcoming
from Grasshopper Films. In addition to his career as a filmmaker, Ricky has
written on cinema and the arts for magazines such as *The Nation* and *N+1*.
The event will take place in Sanders Auditorium at Vassar College, and is
free & open to the public. The program will run 90 minutes." Here is a
