<span style="font-family:Helvetica">I know this is a chunky-looking email, but it won't take long to read! </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Helvetica">So. Winter's been slamming us hard in the face. Beyonce released 17 works of divine scripture, AND YET we all know that the worst of this damned cold will carry over well into second semester. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Helvetica">Well... Idlewild Theater Ensemble has a proposition to warm things up right after we get back from winter break, and we're reaching out to you- our fellow female artists- to share in the fun. ;)</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Helvetica">Idlewild is sponsoring a snug little coffeehouse benefit entitled “The Tenth Muse”, to feature some of Vassar’s gifted female artists early next semester, and we would love for you to be a part of it! The Tenth Muse is a term that has been ascribed to various women throughout history who are so talented in their art that they are worthy of a position among the nine Muses described in Greek mythology.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Helvetica">However, the goal of this benefit is not only to recognize and celebrate the staggering plethora of female talent we have here on campus, but also for us to join together as a community and make an impact outside of the ‘Vassar Bubble’.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Helvetica">“The Tenth Muse” will benefit The Representation Project-- a non-profit that challenges the disparagingly weak portrayals of women in the media, and aims to change the conversation by sharing the message that our value and power as females should not come from narrowly constructed patriarchal visions! (Boom. Feminism.)You've probably seen their work circulating through social media, especially in this recent article: </span><a href="http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/12/05/how-far-we-havent-come-all-of-the-terrible-ways-the-media-treated-women-in-2013-in-one-video/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family:Helvetica;color:rgb(17,78,230)">http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/12/05/how-far-we-havent-come-all-of-the-terrible-ways-the-media-treated-women-in-2013-in-one-video/</span></a><span style="font-family:Helvetica">. Although the event will be free to students, we would like to encourage the audience to make contributions to the project, and perhaps even conduct a raffle to inspire and motivate people!</span> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Helvetica">Combining elements of a chill coffeehouse, a slam poetry fest, a sketch/variety showcase, a preview show, and art gallery in an all-female supported space, this will be a cozy event where there will be hot drinks, warm food, good conversation, and the company of our talented friends. It'll be a chance to make new friends, or, for some of us, to see for the first time your friends perform! New material may be workshopped, but the event will mainly feature highlights from work created during the Fall Semester. <u></u><u></u></span></p>
